The Perfect French Press Recipe Does Exist!

Ah yes! The Ol ’faithful pot of french press.  Perfect for that lazy Saturday morning with the family. All it takes is 5 minutes, and you have coffee in a jiffy. We prefer to use a more full bodied coffee in a french press, but really any coffee you prefer works. A french press will bring out the chocolate and savory notes in any of the coffees you pick. Throw it all together and let it steep- well, its almost that easy. The most important part about the french press process is consistency; find what works for you and what you prefer.

Always remember, make sure your coffee is ground coarse. Your coffee should have similar consistency to breadcrumbs.

What you’ll need:

French Press (don’t forget this one)

Kettle

Scale

Burr Coffee Grinder (if not pre-ground)

Coffee Scoop

Your Favorite Eiland Coffee

Mug

The size of your french press can vary, so we like to use ratios around here. We think the best ratio for a french press is 16 grams of water to 1 gram of coffee. (If you don’t have a scale aim for 6 tablespoons for every 2 cups, then go buy a scale)

First things first, start heating water in your kettle to 205 degrees

Fill your french press with hot water to warm your press up while you start on the next steps

Use your scale to measure out coffee into your French Press. We want to make around 16 ounces, so we are using 40 grams of coffee.

Pour out the warming water and throw in the ground coffee

Once the water in your kettle hits 200 degrees, pour enough water to cover your coffee and give it a few swirls to soak all the grounds

Start the timer for 4 minutes and let the coffee bloom for 30 seconds

When the first 30 seconds is up, break the crust and pour the rest of the water into your french press

Place the plunger on top, and wait it out for 4 minutes

Optional Step: We like to remove as much coffee ground off the top as we can right before we plunge, this ensures that there won’t be any sediment or grounds in your cup.

When the 4 minutes is up, press the plunger all the way down

Pour and drink that beauty

Its really that easy! Its best to pour all of the coffee out of the French press immediately to make sure there is no sediment or leftover coffee. We love to use Green Room, Eiland, or Papua New Guinea when we make a pot.

Happy Brewing!:)
